Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

In addition to doula services, I offer CBT as an accredited psychological therapist.

01

Why CBT?

Understanding the relationship between our thoughts, actions and feelings can help shine a light on cyclical patterns we may have felt trapped in for years, and that at one time served us and kept us safe, but are now keeping us stuck; it can help us to see where change is possible. When taking a trauma-focused approach it can also help us to understand why trauma occurs, when and how it shows up, and how to address it and help you recover the person you were intended to be.

03

How can you use it?

Engaging with CBT can support you towards real, tangible change in your life right now, but it can also help you to make sense of wounds that formed long ago and have compassion for the former you at a time of vulnerability; in validating these earlier experiences and making sense of how certain beliefs and assumptions formed, we can start to test out and challenge their validity today.

02

Who can it Help?

We shouldn't be having to talk about this, we shouldn't have to heal from birth trauma; often the root cause of this is iatrogenic harm from unnecessary interventions and a failure to listen to women and birthing people and give space for them to listen to and follow their own intuition. But until such time where there is a serious cultural shift and system change in maternity services, CBT can help to start to heal from these wounds. It can also support people with anxiety around birth, which coupled with knowledge and a respect for physiological birth, I hope to help you radically address your worry and fears.

04

Who else can it help?

Addressing psychological distress pre- or postnatally, whatever the cause, has profound and lasting effects on not only our own wellbeing, but on our parenting, our intimate and personal relationships, and our connection with our communities. Like hiring a doula in the once-in-a-lifetime event of the birth of your baby, taking the time to talk about you and understand your pain is priceless.

CBT or talking therapy can also support those who have witnessed difficult events, like birth partners. Support for secondary trauma is often overlooked, yet addressing this also has profound and positive effects on the individual and the family. If this is you and you would like to talk, please get in touch.
